Your old sash comes out. The frame that's been in the wall since the house was built stays. The new window drops into that opening, gets shimmed square, sealed, and insulated. When we're done, the woodwork inside your house looks the same as it did that morning.
For most Rochester homes this is the right call. If the frame is solid, there's no reason to tear the wall apart to get a better window in it.
If we find rot in the frame or sill, water damage in the wall, or you want to change the size or shape of the opening, an insert just covers the problem up. That's a full-frame replacement, and we'll tell you so at the estimate rather than after we've started.
The honest version: an insert loses a little glass area, because the new frame sits inside the old one. On most windows it's an inch or so around the perimeter. On a small bathroom window you'll notice it. On a living room window you won't.
The most common window in the Rochester area by a wide margin. Both sashes slide, and both tilt in so you can wash the outside from inside the house. If your home was built before 1980, this is probably what you have.
Cranks open like a door. Seals tighter than anything else when closed, which matters in January. Good over a kitchen sink or anywhere you need to reach past a counter.
Slides side to side. Common in ranches and mid-century homes, and a good fit for wide, short openings where a double hung would look off.
Picture windows don't open and give you the most glass for the money. Bay and bow windows push out from the wall and add real light and depth to a room.
We won't put a price on a website that we haven't measured. What we will say is that our whole reason for starting this company was that the choices around here were a big-box store you install yourself, or a commissioned salesperson quoting a number designed to be negotiated down. We don't run commissioned sales. The number on your proposal is the number.
We come out, measure every opening, and talk through what the house needs. You get a written proposal. If you sign it, we order. Nothing is owed before that. On install day we average about two windows a day depending on the opening, we clean up behind ourselves, and we walk the job with you before we leave.
No high-pressure sales visit, no commissioned salesperson, and nothing owed until you approve the proposal.
